This is one which I don't think would be too complicated, but could really use this feature! I am soon going to be hosting a small private forum within my main forum, and my idea was to have a clickable category link, or at least a link that you could have on an external site so when it is clicked the only category and forums within you can see are the one you clicked on.

They don't have to be completely invisible, but something like this:

http://www.dashtabs.com/modules.php?name=Forums

click on a main category and see what I mean. I just think this would be worthwhile since I think most forum software has something similar to this, at the least when you click on it, you will be centered onto that forum on your screen.

If I understand correctly what you want... UBBThreads already has it.

You can link to specific categories. Categories have numbers, so if that private forum is category 3, you would link as in [:"blue"] ?Cat=3 [/] while at your main boards you would link to [:"blue"] ?Cat=1,2,4,5 [/]

For example, visit this.

Ahh, perfect! That is exactally what I wanted, except I still don't see why when viewing the main board the titles aren't links themselves, like in VB or phpBB or others. That's a moot point for my situation anyway, just wondering. But thanks for pointing that out, I never thought of putting a number in there

I guess one more thing.. would it be possible to have a category to display its own seperate header? I think specific forums can do this, but in my situation if people are accessing the specific category I could find a use for a different header as compared to the rest of the site.

I'm just thinking outloud and it isn't a big deal, but a hack to allow that would be nice

Separate header for specific category? Its board dependent, so just specify that header throughout the boards of that category. Its a few extra clicks, but you only do this kind of work once a year?

Yes, would be nice by categories as well, but I am guessing that for technical reasons the choice was between categories or boards. The board option allows more control.

Yeah, I understand... it actually may be a halfway good idea to have the main page with my header, so the users who are coming to the board from an external page see that its hosted by my site and may in turn gain more traffic, I can see the positive side to it as well
